Jake's 30th Birthday

Jake turns the big 3-0!

To celebrate, I gave Jake 30 gifts for 30 years, one on each day starting December 1st. Some were pretty good gifts that I was pretty proud of, and some were silly, and some were just plain "I'm out of ideas but I need to think of 3 more gifts" gifts. Ha.

I didn't really do a very good job at documenting each day. But I do love the beer bottle wrapping paper that I found to wrap all the gifts in. :)

Jake got things like bacon socks, Ghirardelli chocolates, new fancy pens for work, different craft beers, bottle saver caps, iTunes gift card, Anchorman 2 bluray, funny little handmade cards and coupons, mini bottles, and a bunch of other stuff I'm having trouble remembering now.

For the day 7 gift, I had arranged for us to do a VIP tour and tasting at one of the local breweries down here called Due South Brewing. We got to see all the equipment and learn about how they got started and how they operate day to day. Afterwards, we went to the tasting room where we sampled six different beers. I was only taking tiny sips but each one was delicious and made me REALLY miss drinking beer. I'd say I probably miss beer the most out of any gluten-ridden food item I now have to avoid. We ended up purchasing some six-packs to take home and some to give for Christmas gifts.

When the big day finally came, I gave Jake his birthday gift #23 first thing in the morning. He's been talking about getting a nice watch for a while now, so back on Black Friday I had done some finagling and was able to get him a Citizen watch for an amazing deal.

For the big birthday gift, I switched it up on the wrapping paper and lovingly wrapped it up in some oh-so-appropriate pirate paper. I was just as excited about the paper as I was about the gift. ;)

Here's 30-year-old Jake mere moments after rolling out of bed in the morning. Happy Birthday!!!!!
That banner behind him was actually for me, 3 years ago, but after he had ordered it he forgot all about it. Apparently we never got a notification when it was delivered. It sat in the office at our old apartment complex for almost a year before we discovered it was there. At least it finally got some use!

When Jake got home from work that day, the rest of his presents from his parents were waiting there for him, as well as his annual 4 horsemen shot, which I took the liberty of collecting the ingredients for. I know he was so glad to see that waiting for him.

Jake opened his presents later that night when we could Skype. He got an engraved bourbon aging barrel and a nice bottle of bourbon to go with it. It's a great addition to our slowly growing bar collection, and he's so excited to use it!

I think we had a very happy birthday boy when it was all said and done. I hope I was able make it as special as he deserves.

HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY, JACOB FRANCIS!
